Friday 02072025 - Still Stippling

I get a lot of comments about patience when people look at my work. They say they could never sit and work on these details for so long. I honestly think people are overestimating how strenuous this is! And I’m not trying to sell myself short. I have an immense sense of pride and respect for my method. Sometimes it blows me away. But honestly, I think anyone could do it. So consider this a myth-busting.

Sooo Much Time!

It doesn’t feel like a lot of time at all. Since this is an activity that relaxes me AND engages my mind, I’m not constantly aware of the time passing. Plus I’m not sitting in like a silent cave. I find myself a cozy spot, but on some music, an audiobook, or a movie, and get in the zone! Add a nice drink in there and it’s a perfect day. I think the longest I’ve sat drawing was 4 hours. So when I say a drawing took me 100+ hours, it’s not all at once!

Your Hands Must Be Exhausted!

I periodically stretch and reposition my hands without thinking about it, sort of like adjusting in an uncomfortable chair. I did get some pain in my middle finger a while back, so I’ve been making a conscious effort to stretch more. Believe it or not, weight training has been a huge reason my hands always feel good. I never thought they were related until I took a few weeks off and my hands felt all sad and crampy.

So Many Pens

Micron pens should honestly sponsor me because I have told soo many people how long they last. I’ve done my last maybe 4 drawings with the same two pens. Stippling is a very pen friendly practice.

Anyway, I’m on the last stage of this drawing, and I’m watching John Wick 2. One day I really will do a blog post about how silly this movie is.
